Building Bridges to Homeownership: NAREB's Initiative in Atlanta

The National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) is set to host the Building Black Wealth Tour in Atlanta on November 16, 2024, a pivotal event aimed at addressing the wealth disparity between Black and White Americans. Despite these challenges, there are approximately 2 million Black Americans who are mortgage-ready yet have not pursued homeownership. By engaging directly with community members through this tour, NAREB aims to empower these individuals and families with the knowledge they need to navigate the complex real estate landscape.

Prominent figures such as Dr. Courtney Johnson Rose, NAREB National President, and Dr. Jamal Bryant, Sr. Pastor of New Birth Church, will lead the event, which also features contributions from local leaders and organizations such as the Church of God in Christ, Inc. and the National Bar Association. Attendees can expect a wealth of resources, including free credit reports and educational sessions on various topics such as investment strategies and down payment assistance. The tour also highlights the potential of leveraging family properties, such as "Big Mama's House," to build intergenerational wealth, thereby reinforcing the concept of community empowerment through homeownership.

In addition to the workshops, the event is a response to the alarming statistic that the wealth of the 400 richest Americans is now equivalent to the total wealth of all 48 million Black individuals in the United States.
