Tivic Health Systems Advances Non-Invasive Vagus Nerve Stimulation Research
Tivic Health® Systems, Inc., a pioneering health tech company in bioelectronic medicine, announces the completion of full enrollment in an optimization study for its patent-pending non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) device. Conducted by The Feinstein Institute of Bioelectronic Medicine, this study aims to identify the optimal parameters—such as frequency and duration—that affect the autonomic nervous system's (ANS) function. The results are expected to guide Tivic Health in prioritizing clinical indications for future testing and commercial development, with findings anticipated in early Q1 2025. According to Chief Scientific Officer Blake Gurfein, the device demonstrates significant effects on key biological measures, highlighting its potential to enhance patient outcomes.
CEO Jennifer Ernst underscores the growing need for non-invasive alternatives to traditional implanted VNS technologies, which may not be suitable for all patients. The global VNS market is on a robust growth trajectory, projected to rise from $8.59 billion in 2021 to $21.3 billion by 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.6%. Notably, the peripheral nerve stimulation segment that Tivic targets is set to expand at a remarkable 35% CAGR, positioning Tivic Health at the forefront of a rapidly growing sector within bioelectronic medicine. The vagus nerve plays a vital role in regulating various organ systems linked to chronic diseases, with FDA approval already granted for VNS applications in treatment-resistant epilepsy, depression, and other conditions.
To bolster its commercial strategy, Tivic Health has engaged Fletcher Spaght, Inc. (FSI) for a market assessment of its non-invasive cervical VNS technology. This initiative leverages insights from a successful Phase 1 trial, reinforcing the company's commitment to innovation and strategic market positioning. As the optimization study progresses, Tivic Health continues to refine its approach, aiming to tap into high-value markets and expand its footprint in the burgeoning bioelectronic medicine industry.
In addition to its focus on VNS technology, Tivic Health reports advancements in its ClearUP product line, a handheld device designed for sinus and allergy relief. Following a supply chain redesign, the company achieves over 70% gross margin on this product, enhancing its economic viability. Despite reporting revenues of $126,000 for the third quarter and $600,000 for the nine-month period—a 27% decrease compared to the previous year—Tivic remains optimistic about its growth trajectory. The recent appointment of Lisa Wolf as interim CFO signals a renewed focus on strategic initiatives as the company navigates its path toward future expansion and innovation.
